Online Gambling Being Attacked By Horse Racing Track Owners
Horse racing tracks in Ottawa see the industry of gambling on the Internet. They do not like what they see, and they are asking for changes to be made.
Horse racing owners are concerned that laws that are in place that prohibits online gambling are not being enforced. They are claiming that it is hurting their business, and they are asking for change.
Current Canadian law prohibits online gambling except in certain situations. Although the laws are in place, they are not being enforced according to track owners, and it is hurting their business.
"It's having a sever impact on our business. They take a lower commission on the bet because they don't have infrastructure costs and pay purses," said Vice president of Corporate Affairs for Woodbine Entertainment Group, Jane Holmes.
The track industry has made several complaints about Internet gambling, but claim they have been told it is not a top priority of law officials to look into the matter.
It could just be a matter of officials turning their head and looking the other way to avoid breaking up an industry that is pouring millions of dollars into the economy.
